What is a Smart Ring? — The Story of Samsung Galaxy Ring
Today we have Smartphones, Smartwatches, Fitness Bands — everything. But there’s one problem with all of them — you can’t wear them 24/7. A Smartwatch is uncomfortable at night, a fitness band looks basic, and a phone is too bulky.
This is where the Smart Ring idea came from. A ring that looks completely normal from the outside, but is high-tech inside. Oura Ring pioneered this concept about 10 years ago. And now Samsung has launched its Galaxy Ring.
Galaxy Ring’s core idea: wear it and live your life — eat, sleep, shower, swim — and the ring quietly collects all your health data in the background.
What’s in the Box?
Design & Build Quality — The Magic of Titanium
Galaxy Ring’s design is extremely premium. Full Titanium frame throughout. The outer surface has raised edges with a recessed middle — this design is also functionally better as raised edges make scratches less visible.

Sleep Tracking — How Accurate is Galaxy Ring?
Sleep tracking is Galaxy Ring’s biggest strength. Over 4-5 weeks of testing it was compared against Oura Ring, Ultrahuman Air, RingConn and a Garmin watch.
Resting Heart Rate — Best in Class
During sleep, Galaxy Ring’s resting heart rate tracking delivered results exactly equal to Oura Ring — only 1 beat per minute difference each night! This is extremely impressive.
Workout Tracking — Some Limitations
Auto-detection is only for walking and running. For gym, cycling or other sports you need to manually start a workout in the Samsung Health app.
Activities where the ring must be removed: Ultimate Frisbee, Golf, Heavy weight training. This is a significant limitation for those whose main activities fall in this list.
Battery Life — How Long Does it Last in the Real World?
On Size 13 7 days and on Size 10 6.5 days in real-world use. The battery lives up to its promise.
| Battery (Size 10) | 19.5 mAh |
| Real Battery Life (Size 10) | ~6.5 days |
| Battery Life (Size 13) | ~7 days+ |
| Charging Time | ~1 hour |
| Case Battery | Gives ring 1.5x extra charges |
Accuracy — How Accurate are Step Count and Heart Rate?
Sleep tracking accuracy is excellent. However for step counting the ring over-counts in regular activities. In one test 56 steps were counted without even walking.
Heart rate tracking during sleep is extremely accurate — exact same readings as Oura Ring. The PPG sensor on the index finger is more accurate than on the wrist.
