OnePlus Nord 6 Review
9000mAh monster battery, Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, 165Hz AMOLED, IP69K — OnePlus has overhauled the Nord series. But is it actually worth ₹36,000? We tested it extensively.
Quick Verdict: The OnePlus Nord 6 is a performance and battery powerhouse in the sub-₹40,000 segment. With the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a groundbreaking 9000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 165Hz flagship-grade display, IP69K water resistance, and OxygenOS 16 — it delivers a nearly flagship experience at a mid-range price. The camera is a slight downgrade from Nord 5 and there’s no telephoto lens, but for gamers, heavy users, and anyone who hates charging their phone — this is the one to buy.
📋 Table of Contents
Design & Build Quality
The OnePlus Nord 6 adopts the same design language as the flagship OnePlus 15 — clean, minimal back with a squircle camera module in the corner, flat sides, and a matte finish. It’s a sharp departure from the Nord 5’s vertical camera strip design, and while it looks more cohesive with the OnePlus lineup, some users prefer the Nord 5’s more unique look.
The phone is built with a polycarbonate back and frame — not metal — but it feels solid in hand. At 8.5mm slim and weighing around 219–222 grams (with the 9000mAh battery!), it’s impressively thin for what’s inside. The rounded edges make it comfortable to hold for extended periods.
Three Color Options:
- Silver Shadow — Raw, unique metallic look. Most distinct of the three.
- Fresh Mint — Vibrant and fresh, matching the color-coordinated case in the box.
- Midnight Black — Understated and professional.
Durability — Major Upgrade Over Nord 5:
This is where OnePlus went all-in. The Nord 6 carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications — identical to the flagship OnePlus 15. The Nord 5 only had IP65. This means the Nord 6 can handle high-pressure water jets, rain, submersion, and everyday splashes without any concern. It also has MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification for drops and environmental stress.
The display is protected by Crystal Guard — OnePlus’s own proprietary glass that the company claims matches Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus in scratch and drop resistance.
Buttons & Ports:
Right side: Volume rocker + Power button. Left side: Signature OnePlus Alert Slider (Plus Key). Bottom: USB Type-C, microphone, speaker grill, dual SIM tray. Top: Noise-cancelling microphone, single speaker grill, IR Blaster. No microSD card slot.
Display
The Nord 6 uses the same 6.78-inch AMOLED panel as the OnePlus 15 — one of the biggest wins of this phone. It’s an LTPS panel (not LTPO, so no variable refresh rate) but delivers exceptional quality for the price.
| Panel Type | AMOLED LTPS (same panel as OnePlus 15) |
| Size | 6.78 inches |
| Resolution | 1.5K (2772×1240) |
| Refresh Rate | Up to 165Hz (60 / 90 / 120 / 144 / 165Hz) |
| Touch Sampling Rate | 3200Hz |
| Peak Brightness | 3600 nits |
| HBM Brightness | 1800 nits |
| PWM Dimming | 3840Hz (flicker-free in low light) |
| HDR Support | HDR10+ (YouTube, Netflix certified) |
| Protection | Crystal Guard (OnePlus proprietary) |
| Screen-to-Body Ratio | ~93.5% |
The 165Hz refresh rate is a jump from the Nord 5’s 144Hz — while you may not notice the difference in daily use (system UI runs at 120Hz), it makes a real difference in supported games. The 3600-nit peak brightness handles outdoor visibility excellently. Colors are vibrant and well-tuned, HDR video on Netflix and YouTube looks genuinely flagship-grade.
The 3840Hz PWM dimming means even at very low brightness levels in dark environments, eye strain is significantly reduced — a thoughtful addition for late-night users.
Stereo Speakers:
Dual stereo speakers (bottom-firing + earpiece) deliver loud, clear audio. Volume can go up to 300% in the settings for an extra boost. Sound quality is noticeably improved over the Nord 5 — louder with better separation.
Performance
The Nord 6 packs the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 — a significant upgrade over the Nord 5’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This is paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage — the fastest RAM and storage types available, typically found only in flagship phones.
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (4nm) |
| RAM | 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5X |
| Storage | 256GB UFS 4.1 |
| AnTuTu Score | ~24 lakh (2.4 million) |
| Geekbench Multi-core | ~6600 |
| CPU Thermal Stability | ~80% (good for extended use) |
| GPU Stability | ~49–60% |
In daily use, the Nord 6 is effortlessly smooth. 30–40 browser tabs, heavy multitasking, 4K video editing, Android Studio development — all handled without a hitch. The UFS 4.1 storage reads at exceptionally fast speeds, making app launches near-instant.
CPU Scheduler:
OnePlus’s custom CPU scheduler intelligently distributes processing load — giving priority to the foreground app or game. This is the same algorithm used in the OnePlus 15 and contributes to the buttery smooth experience.
Gaming Performance
Gaming is where the Nord 6 truly shines. OnePlus has worked with game developers — including CoD and BGMI — to enable native 165 FPS support. The 3200Hz touch sampling rate gives precise, lag-free inputs. The 4000 DPS console-grade gyroscope (same as OnePlus 15) delivers extremely accurate motion controls for FPS games.
We tested six games over 30-minute sessions each:
Thermals were well-managed throughout — temperatures stayed under 40°C in virtually all scenarios. This means no throttling or discomfort during extended gaming sessions. The haptic feedback during gameplay is tight and satisfying, adding to the immersive experience.
Battery & Charging
The headline feature of the Nord 6 is its 9000mAh silicon-carbon battery — the largest battery in any phone under ₹40,000, and comparable to power banks. The reason it fits in an 8.5mm slim phone is silicon-carbon technology, which stacks energy density vertically (think multi-level parking vs single-level) allowing nearly 2× the capacity in the same physical space as a conventional lithium-ion cell.
| Battery Capacity | 9000mAh Silicon-Carbon |
| Charging Speed | 80W SuperVOOC |
| 0–100% Time | ~70–77 minutes |
| 0–50% Time | ~30 minutes |
| Reverse Charging | 27W Wired Reverse Charging |
| Bypass Charging | Yes (for gaming & video recording) |
| Screen-on Time | 10–11 hours (real-world) |
| Typical Usage Backup | 2+ full days |
27W Reverse Wired Charging:
The Nord 6 effectively functions as a 9000mAh power bank. You can charge other devices — phones, earbuds, or even small laptops — at 27W through the USB-C port. A 10,000mAh dedicated power bank is bulkier and heavier than this phone with a smaller capacity.
Bypass Charging:
When gaming or recording 4K video while plugged in, bypass charging routes power directly to the processor without passing through the battery — preventing heat buildup and battery degradation during intensive use.
Camera
| Primary Camera | 50MP Sony LYT-600 with OIS |
| Ultrawide Camera | 8MP |
| Telephoto | ❌ Not available |
| Front Camera | 32MP (with autofocus) |
| Rear Video | 4K 60fps (primary), 1080p 30fps (ultrawide) |
| Front Video | 4K 30fps |
| Digital Zoom | Up to 20x (hybrid) |
Camera Performance — Honest Assessment:
Daylight (Primary): Good overall quality, natural colors in most scenarios. Slight oversharpening visible at 100% crop but acceptable at normal viewing sizes. Skin tones are more accurate than the Nord 5 in most testers’ experience, though some prefer Nord 5’s more neutral processing.
Low Light: Noticeable improvement over Nord 5. Color accuracy holds up well in dark conditions, noise reduction is effective, and subjects remain identifiable even in very low ambient light.
Portrait Mode: Edge detection is good, bokeh is natural. AI portrait glow enhances portraits without over-processing. Skin tone accuracy is a strong point here.
Selfies (32MP): Autofocus is a welcome addition. Detail and color are good, skin tones are well-rendered. Downgrade from Nord 5’s 50MP sensor is visible at 100% crop but not noticeable in social media sharing.
Video: 4K 60fps from the rear is smooth with good stabilization. Front camera limited to 4K 30fps (Nord 5 offered 4K 60fps from the front — this is a step back). Ultrawide video is capped at 1080p 30fps.
Camera Modes:
Pro, Video, Photo, Portrait, Night, High Resolution, Panorama, Film, Slow Motion, Time Lapse, Long Exposure, Dual View Video, Document Scanner, Tilt Shift, and Text Scanner.
